The technologies of the future depend on how innovative we are today. In the rail transport industry, the technologies in use have been developing steadily for many decades, and are often initially perceived as innovative. Growing competition among the various sectors related to transport is driving a search for new ideas or the application of technologies that have already been successfully used in other industries. New materials technologies, digitalisation, high-speed railways, new types of propulsion, magnetic trains, levitation, and the autonomisation and automation of transport are just some of the areas of activity of innovators in the rail transport industry. The aim of the panel devoted to innovation is to discuss how to support and develop innovative technologies in the transport industry. How to support new ideas, how to help the authors of new concepts, while being aware that not all ideas, even very valuable ones, can be implemented immediately for a variety of reasons. The discussion will involve representatives of companies and institutions developing, supporting and implementing innovations in the rail transport industry.
