The Sejm has recognised the role of Polish railways – one of the most important branches of transport and a symbol of modernity. For years, the railway has connected the country's regions, enabled economic growth and cultural exchange.
The Sejm highlighted the important role of the railway both during the Second World War and afterwards, during the communist era, when its employees "played a significant role in the resistance movement against the communist authorities”.
"In recognition of the enormous contribution of Polskie Koleje Państwowe and its employees – both past and present – to building and strengthening Polish statehood, shaping the ethos of service to Poland, and working towards the development of modern public transport, on the centenary of the establishment of the Polskie Koleje Państwowe enterprise, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland declares 2026 the Year of Polish Railways" – the resolution states.
423 members of parliament voted in favour of the resolution.
